....or make you have to change your underwear from laughing so hard you wee yourself a bit.

I love John Barrowman. I'm sure you all didn't know that, so to prove it I'll say it again: I love John Barrowman.

He's had a rather incredible life with plenty of dreams coming true for himself. One dream in particular was to host a Saturday night variety/entertainment show and last year that dream became a reality. Tonight's The Night aired for six episodes and focused on the common person's dreams and hopes of performing. John Barrowman became "Mr. Saturday Night" and made those dreams possible for very deserving people. On top of all that, he allowed people to be recognized or thanked, or just generally shown how loved they were by their family and friends; all on British national television.

This show has real heart. This show will make you bawl one moment and have you dancing the next. This show is undeniably John Barrowman. What's more important is that all of it is happening because John wants to give back and make the average person happy. He loves everyone as much as they love him. I'm in awe of this special guy.

So how ecstatic was I when a second series of TTN was announced last month? VERY DAMN EXCITED, that's how much.

There's a trailer out for it, link Tweeted by JB himself, linked below the cut.

There's also a clip released of one John's (now famous) hidden camera moments where he goes undercover to surprise the totally unaware nominee for the show. And that is the reason I've put this post together. See, the clip is on the BBC iPlayer which means us Yanks can't watch it.

Good thing I'm devious enough to get it to play for me >:]

So here's another round of: LOOK AT THIS! THIS, LOOK AT IT!

Chief Steward, Francis Stryder, kindly directs you to click the cut for further LOLZ )

This man is truly a gift to the world.

I completely realize it's been over a week now since I posted to the TV Meme, or made a post at all really. So here's a brief catchup for posterity's sake!

While it may not be a paying job, I am working on a "low budget" feature length film. That's in quotations because really, it's a student film being made for the MFA program at UCF but according to SAG rules it's a low budget feature. Which is pretty neat actually. Think about how awesome that's going to look on my resume!

Well, to people who don't know any better. I'm certain industry professionals will glance over it and immediately dismiss it as something not awesome of me to have done.

Personally, I could care less if a would-be resume reader wouldn't be impressed, because damnit, I'm having a blast! My original intention was to be the quiet PA in the back listening and learning everything I could. That laster for approximately two Art Department meetings. At that point I was quickly realizing I knew a bit more than any of the other Pa's and couldn't resist offering ideas, or stepping in to help. Because, really, you do not hammer a nail like that, and you do not sit/stand/walk/cut wood near a freshly painted wet flat. Logic people. But that's sounding too harsh. The whole group is a blast to work with and no one is stepping on anyone else's toes. They were all just doing what I originally intended, being quiet in the back, and looked for someone to tell them what to do.

Long, too many details to bother with time later: I am officially the Prop Master in the credits, as well as Production Designer Assistant, and Construction Adviser. :D

Hindsight forever being perfect: What the ballz was I thinking going into Digital Media for Computer Animation/Visual Language??! I mean, really. I was incredibly stupid to follow that path. Everyone has a "talent" or "set of skills" and mine has always clearly been in the line of theatre production.

I grew up with my dad in construction. I was Tech Director and Student Owner of the theatre in high school. This is in my blood! I have a really great film professor mentor by the name of Lisa Cook, who told me she firmly believes: "No one chooses film. It chooses you." She admitted that sounded cheesy, but I can confirm it's 100% true. This job isn't for everyone as it requires a shit ton of labor and more importantly patience. For any department.

Film has definitely chosen me, as I completely feel like I'm in love or something. I can't wait to get down to the tiny sound stage and work with that crew on this crazy ass script that will forever haunt me as being the one pointed to and asked: "Is that a porno?"

If only I were joking.

Having finished the first day of shooting yesterday (1 of 14), I can see how there's a great story in there. Somewhere. I'm still having a bit of a hard time getting past the production company being called "Orgasmatronic Studios" but that's UCF students for you. At least I can work on this with a straight face. I've had countless conversations now about semen, penises, and orgasms. Oh, yes.

The whole movie is going to be interesting, and it will be a ton of fun to watch the film and look at the sets and know where every nail, brush stroke, or amount of faith and prayers were used to hold them up.

The movie: Bad Pixels

It's the beginning of a huge step in the awesome direction for my life. Now, if I could just get a damn film job that pays me to do what I love, I'll feel as if I've actually succeeded at this tricky life thing.

You would think I would have been all over this show, but I really didn't want to watch it. At first. Then it just kept coming on and I had to keep changing the channel. The bugger wouldn't go away, so finally, one night I watched a full episode. Then another. Then *another* (it was a marathon leading up to the season finale.) and MAN I fell in love with this show.

Day 10 - A show you thought you wouldn't like but ended up loving )

I sat here long and hard trying to wrack my brain to fit this. I went through many, many, many, scenes of Burn Notice because I knew that show is all about BEST SCENES EVAR.

Sadly, this isn't going to be answered with Micheal Weston playing a gang against superstition (dude, he snaps and things explode [seemingly] randomly!!). Why? Because apparently the internet has not realized the epicness of that scene. So in favor of something to embed, I have to whole heartily agree that this chosen scene is the Best Scene Ever. I really do meant it, this is a perfect choice for this.

This show has great ratings and award nominations all ready, but I firmly believe everyone should see this show.

Again, since I was having to deal with the DECADES decades decades of Doctor Who history, I stuck to the new show's era.

Also, I had to think too much again to answer this one. Dang it!

Day 07 - Least favorite episode of your favorite TV show )

lanatil: (Default)
I was not expecting to have to *think* this much for a meme!! After spending an entire day mulling over decades of material I could pick from ... I've cheated a little bit.

Since this is the day for favorite ep from favorite show, I narrowed my options to the modern Doctor Who. Still tough, but in the end I realized what my favorite episode was. Once I thought about re-watch counts, it was obvious.

Day 06 - Favorite episode of your favorite TV show )

TV Meme History )
lanatil: (Default)
Ugh. I unfortunately put a lot of thought into this. The reason for that is there really isn't a show I especially hate. If I don't like the concept of a show I just ignore it. However, there are a couple that I can say I would hate if I kept watching them.

Day 05 - A show you hate )

Ok, so maybe I do hate a show. :/

TV Meme History )
lanatil: (Default)
Should I even cut this? You all know what I'm going to answer anyway. LOL

Day 04 - Your favorite show ever )

TV Meme History )
lanatil: (Default)
If I was doing this meme last year it wouldn't be nearly this hard. There is quite a list to choose from here: V, White Collar, The Vampire Diaries, Modern Family, Glee, Justified, just to name a few I've watched.

Day 03 - Your favorite new show (aired this TV season) )

Most of the shows I'm currently watching have a huge fanbase already and healthy ratings...so this took a lot of thought.

*ahem*

TORCHWOOD IS BACK! TORCHWOOD IS BACK! TORCHWOOD IS BACK! TORCHWOOD IS BACK! TORCHWOOD IS BACK! TORCHWOOD IS BACK!
(I do believe in fairies, I do! I do!)

And yes, I just typed all of that out instead of copy/paste because I am just that DAMN EXCITED!!!

I'm stating it here: I'm watching because of my love and trust in John Barrowman and Eve Myles. I also <3 Julie Gardner but as I suspect with most of fandom, I'm cautiously watching RTD from the corner of my eye. Watching like a nervous gazelle approaching a crocodile infested watering hole.

The man can write a story, but we'll see how he reacts to his fans this go around. It's not a second chance with me to him, it's an accepting of the "lesser of two evils" kinda thing. If this announcement had come out and listed a completely different Producer team I would not be nearly as excited as I am. The sad truth is, Torchwood needs people that are faithful to the characters. Perhaps now that RTD will probably be writing more than the PILOT ONLY .... we won't have such drastic OOC moments from Gwen and Jack. Mainly Jack. (and that's saying something for Captain Camp.)

Summer '11 here we come! I'm ready!

OMG the syllable beats for "TORCHWOOD IS BACK" is four ... and can totally be synced with the drum beat the Master crai's about. Hey. Don't look at me like that! It's the small things in life that amuse me!

In my general fandom lurking I came across this meme on [livejournal.com profile] unfolded73's journal. This looks like a fun meme to do! Plus, it's something that can fill my journal with interesting things.

Ok, The LJ.

I am off on my ADVENTUR to J-ville. I have been promised a girly weekend of massages, beaches, and kick ass food! ( <3 [livejournal.com profile] cakely_yours )

Also, the film meeting went well this morning. The director is hysterical and made an oath to keep everyone having fun on set. I'm part of the art department, just a PA, but this promises to turn into A LOT of work. Fun work. Non-paid work. But FUN work! :D

Off I go, into the wild blue yonder...

And yes, the hat I am wearing is my adorable white cowboy hat.
lanatil: (Default)
Well I've had a busy and productive holiday weekend!

This past Memorial Day was The Big Event for my SCA peeps. Crown Lyst was happening and our group mom was being fought for. What this means is two things:
1) If her fighter won, then they would be next king and queen :D.
2) The entire household's lives would be hella busy for the next year or so.

Unfortunately, her fighter didn't win, he placed 3rd, but even though we were all really disappointed it was still great fun, and I got to be in a procession for someone! I feel all official SCA now :D ....I just need to pay my membership fees...>> er, yeah.

If you have no idea what I am talking about : SCA

K got a LJ! :D Now I'll have to be calling her [livejournal.com profile] raziki_42 lol She's doing really silly "Email Stories" for fun like in the old days before we were hip cats that used the intarwebs for more than email.

The past couple of weeks have also been totally taken over by Assassin's Creed II. OMG you guys, this game...it is so gorgeous and filled with HOURS of interesting things to do. The plotline will make your head hurt (in the good way) and I am hopelessly in love with an assassin. This seems to be a theme in my life *cough* Soku *cough* Integra *cough*

I've since beaten the game and it's crazy ass storyline complete with timey whimey events, conspiracies, and general WTFery only then to fall down a rabbit hole with a story idea.

That's right. My brain in the span of a day, rebelled against my weak attempts to stop it and produced what has got to be the most complicated mess I have ever gotten my creative self into. I somehow combined the Assassin's Creed franchise with Doctor Who/Torchwood. AND IT WORKS!

If you haven't played the game, you will not understand me when I say how mind blowing h00j this project would be. Here's an idea: the Pieces of Eden are used/sought by our modern day Templars only for events to occur that bring in the Torchwood Crew. Ezio Auditore da Firenze is pulled to the future where he is tasked with assassinating Jack but becomes allies instead. Altair is still alive (sorta). The Doctor has some answering to do on behalf of Those Who Came Before. Oh, and the Royal Family are werewolves. But we knew that one already thanks to Doctor Ten. There are already tons of smaller details plotted for this. Basically it's all: I just accidentally...all time space.

Here's the scene that started it all! (Spoilers, I guess, if you haven't played ACII)

Timey Whimey fun this way! )
lanatil: (Default)
I'm doing research for a certain project and that involved lots of image trolling from Teh Interwebz. I am TERRIFIED OF THIS LITTLE GIRL.

First, let me say, I'm only vaguely aware of who Shirley Temple is. I grew up ordering the drink when going to bars with my dad, if that gives you any reference point.

I understand America clung to her as the movie industry started to explode and people needed escapes during the Depression. What better fantastical escapism could you ask for than an adorable child movie star that could do everything?

She sang, she danced, she made America fall in love with her. So why on God's Green Earth(tm) does this exist?! :
(Don't go below the cut if you're not in a position of easily explaining this away. i.e anywhere. I kid. No, really, NSFW)

I can't even ... )

I'll give you a description if you can't open the link. It's a poster/cover of some kind with a painted Shirley Temple wearing nothing (no really) except for jackboots, a peaked cap, a medal, and holding a riding crop. All with the backdrop of a swastika. The title of the production seems to be lolariously: What is it?

I don't know why this exists or what it exists for. It doesn't look like some modern rendition or statement. Anyway, I'm babbling because I just had such a OMGWTF moment I needed to exorcise my soul. I can't imagine this being ok artwork in 1930's Hollywood (See: Production Code, aka Hayes Code), as the image attached seems to be more appropriate for the era. Which is disgusting too, but hey, it's history.

(...objectifying wot?)

...when Torchwood is no longer available to protect the planet from Rift activity.

Weird Creature Measures 6ft Long

"A mysterious creature horrified holidaymakers after it washed up on a beach on the Gower Peninsula in Wales. The writhing mass of tentacles, which measured at least 6ft from end to end. "

Cut Gwen some slack for this slip up. It's tough being a working mom. The saddest bit of this scenario is there will be no snarky commentary from the Captain :(
lanatil: (Default)
Holy shit! How've I pulled that one off?

I've been dreading today. Not because of cliche age worries, but because Mom was coming within my personal space for the first time since the Big Email Debate of a few weeks ago. I can happily report nothing exploded, was broken, or money was needed for bail. (I seriously was worried about any of that happening today.)

It was bizarre, actually. She only started to cause an issue twice for the entire time she was here. Dadius, aka Gibbs from NCIS, stepped in and talked over her and gave her The Eye. Other than that it was a pleasant dinner at the Ale House. In fact, it was a GREAT night because beer was available (Blue Moon + Bud Lite = yes pls)

Also here's another round of:

LOOK AT THIS!

THIS, LOOK AT IT!
lanatil: (Default)
Over the last couple months I have been slowly (oh, so so slowly) watching Doctor Who from its very beginning. I'm talking Doctor One here.

Anyway, keeping in mind this is 1963, a TV show and British SciFi, I have been loving it! William Hartnell plays the very "Get off my lawn!" old man Doctor, but there's a twinkle in his eye you can't help falling in love with.

Isn't that so like the Doctor?

My favorite bit about watching these old episodes is playing "Find the String" or, sit and giggle at the model making and inventive ways to make something "other"

This clip. This precious, glorious clip, summarizes what makes Early Classic Who so worth it.  Just watch up to about 02:18:00 (it's about six minutes long in total as it's the last section of the full episode) that's all I've gotten to so far.

Pay attention to 01:13:00 for DW Monster Craft at its finest, and then at 01:52:00 ... I don't need to explain why.

It's too amazing.

I hope you're laughing, because I was fucking wetting myself when the Brains in Jars started SCREAMING their eye stalks off. *wipes tear* Oh, Doctor Who. I love you so much.
lanatil: (Default)
I'ma going to state first: I am an incredible idiot.

Why?

For practically cutting my workout cold turkey for almost two weeks ,because I didn't think having the proper food to keep the calorie burn up would work. Looking back I should have done something small at least. Light Yoga, or stretching. Nope. I was inflicted with Cousin Fred and wrote off working out because, well, any female can explain it to you. Then, I had a geek binge and bought Pokemon SoulSilver and the new Ace Attourney game with Miles Edgeworth for the DS. There went my epic grocery list getting cut down to essentials.

No matter, I said, for Monday I will start the week anew and get back on schedule. HAH.

Turns out I didn't need an alarm clock this morning, because Nasa thoughtfully took care of that for me. )
